About Freya

Freya Harrison is a Reader in the School of Life Sciences at the University of Warwick. She holds a BA(Hons) in Biological Sciences and a DPhil from the University of Oxford, completed in 2007. Her career includes postdoctoral research at the University of Bath and the University of Nottingham, as well as a Fellowship by Examination at Magdalen College, University of Oxford. She joined the University of Warwick in 2016 as Assistant Professor, progressing to Associate Professor and Reader.

Harrison leads research on bacterial pathogens forming chronic biofilm infections with high antibiotic tolerance, focusing on cystic fibrosis lung infections, chronic wounds, and ventilator-associated pneumonia. She develops host-mimicking lab models, including ex vivo pig lung models, and collaborates on novel therapeutics such as antimicrobial polymers and ancient infection remedies through the interdisciplinary AncientBiotics consortium. She received the WH Pierce Prize in 2021 from the Society for Applied Microbiology. Harrison serves on the Microbiology Society Sustainability Committee and the COST Action CA23152 on biofilm regulatory decision making. Her professional email is f.harrison@warwick.ac.uk.
