Gastón de los Reyes is Associate Teaching Professor of International Business & Strategy at Northeastern University’s D’Amore-McKim School of Business. He earned a PhD in Business Ethics & Legal Studies from the Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania, a JD magna cum laude from Boston University School of Law, where he served as Executive Editor of the Boston University Law Review, an MA in Philosophy from Boston University, and an AB cum laude in Philosophy from Harvard College. Before entering academia, de los Reyes practiced corporate law as an associate at Cleary Gottlieb Steen & Hamilton LLP in New York, leading finance work on a $1.9 billion Latin American Wall Street deal; litigated commercial cases at Bulkley, Richardson & Gelinas LLP in Springfield, Massachusetts; clerked for Judge Juan R. Torruella on the U.S. Court of Appeals for the First Circuit; and worked as an investment analyst for John Hancock Funds in Boston.
De los Reyes studies and teaches strategy and international business, with particular interest in governance, ethics, and sustainability; his current research reconsiders corporate purpose and property rights. Scholz (Journal of Business Ethics, 2023), “The enduring potential of justified hypernorms” with M. Scholz and N.C. Smith (Business Ethics Quarterly, 2019), “Beyond the ‘win-win’: Creating Shared Value requires ethical frameworks” with M. Scholz and N.C. Smith (California Management Review, 2017), and “Teaching ethics in business schools” with T.W. Kim and G.R. Weaver (Academy of Management Learning & Education, 2017). He serves on the editorial boards of Academy of Management Perspectives and Business & Society. Prior appointments include Associate Professor and Faculty Chair at Glasgow Caledonian New York College (2021-2023), Professorial Lecturer at George Washington University School of Business (2021-2023), where he received Outstanding Faculty Awards for Global MBA (2021), M.S. in Management (2022), and Part-time MBA (2023), and Assistant Professor there (2014-2021). He was a Visiting Scholar at Wharton (2017-2023) and teaches courses such as Strategy in Action, International Business & Global Social Responsibility, and Creating Shared Value as a Way of Life. De los Reyes consults on strategy and adult education for the Local Enterprise Assistance Fund and chairs the Municipal Affordable Housing Trust Fund of Amherst, Massachusetts.
