Professor Gautam Sethi is an Associate Professor in the Department of Pharmacology at the Yong Loo Lin School of Medicine, National University of Singapore (NUS). He serves as Chair of the Department Safety and Health Committee. His academic background includes a B.Sc. in Chemistry (Honours) awarded in 1995, an M.Sc. in Biochemistry awarded in 1998, and a Ph.D. in Biotechnology awarded in 2000, with doctoral research focused on cellular immunology conducted in India. Following his Ph.D., he completed postdoctoral training at the University of Texas MD Anderson Cancer Center before joining the Department of Pharmacology at NUS.
Professor Sethi’s research focuses on cancer pharmacology. He investigates the mechanisms of regulation of oncogenic transcription factors by carcinogens and inflammatory agents, as well as cancer cell biology and related pharmacological approaches. He has authored numerous publications in high-impact peer-reviewed journals and received several international research awards. In 2024, he was recognized among the world’s top 2% researchers by citation impact by Elsevier. He is an editorial board member of multiple international journals, including Antioxidant & Redox Signaling, BMC Cancer, Bioscience Reports, Cells, Cancer Letters, and International Journal of Biological Sciences, and has served as an Academic Editor for PLOS and on the editorial boards of Scientific Reports, Pharmacological Research, and Frontiers in Pharmacology. He received the inaugural Pharmacological Society Singapore Award.
