Genyou Wu is Professor and Ph.D. supervisor in the School of Philosophy at Wuhan University, where he serves as Dean of the School of Philosophy. He is also a researcher at the Research Center of Traditional Chinese Cultural Studies and Director of the Research Institute of History of Philosophy of Hubei province. Wu holds the position of specially-appointed professor as a Luojia Scholar at Wuhan University and is an awardee of the Program for New Century Excellent Talents. He has served as a visiting scholar at Hong Kong Baptist University, Harvard University, Wesleyan University, Paris Diderot University, and the University of Trier.
Wu’s research focuses on philosophy in the Ming and Qing dynasties, liberalism, and political philosophy. He teaches courses on the philosophical thoughts of the Pre-Qin masters, a guide to the original source of Chinese philosophy, and philosophy in the Ming and Qing dynasties. His main publications include China’s Intellectual History of Society, The Comparison and Accommodation between Chinese and Western Philosophy, The Early Evaluation of Modern System of Values: from Li Zhi to Dai Zhen, Theories of Pre-Qin Scholars (co-author), and The Creative Transition of Chinese Philosophy (chief editor).
