Dr. Koh Geok May, also known as Sharon Koh, serves as Senior Lecturer and Director of Graduate Research Programs in the School of Business at Monash University Malaysia. She obtained her Doctorate by Research in Economics from Monash University Malaysia in 2017, with a thesis entitled 'Essays on the economics of inequality,' completed between April 2013 and May 2017. Her research centers on economic policy and development issues, particularly vulnerability and social equity. Adopting an interdisciplinary approach, she integrates economics with other disciplines to foster holistic understandings of societal challenges and well-rounded policy solutions. Additional research interests encompass development economics, economic integration, the ASEAN economy, tourism, and technology. Koh actively supervises PhD students, with availability from 2012 to 2026.
In her career, Koh has demonstrated leadership as Chair of the Early Career Researcher (ECR) Network Committee at Monash Malaysia in 2020 and 2021, Deputy Chair in 2019, and School of Business ECR Network Coordinator from 2018 to 2021. She has earned notable awards, including the 2023 Department of Economics Teaching Award jointly with Dr. Anupama Sethi, the Best Paper Award on October 10, 2023, shared with Chuah, S. S., Vaithilingam, S., and Nair, M., and the Dean’s Award for Equity, Diversity and Social Inclusion Research Excellence in 2022, shared with Lee, G. H. and French, J. Her team's efforts on thriving communities were nominated for the 2022 Vice-Chancellor’s Excellence Awards for Diversity and Inclusion. Koh's scholarly contributions include 47 research outputs, such as 'Women’s microentrepreneurial self-efficacy and life satisfaction in Malaysia: the mediating role of individual autonomy' (2026), 'Fair compensation for women in leadership: impact on firm performance' (2025), 'Examining doctors' business analytics capabilities in using the electronic medical record system for decision-making effectiveness in intensive care units: impact of the COVID-19 pandemic' (2025), 'Stakeholder engagement and pharmaceutical pricing regulation: a qualitative inquiry' (2025), and 'Women labour force participation: do gender-role attitudes play a part?' (2025). She disseminates her findings via high-impact academic journals, media platforms, and conference presentations, including 'Economic implications of the Regional Comprehensive Economic Partnership on Southeast Asia' in 2022, thereby enriching discourse in her field.
