Dr. Buddhini Ginigaddara Appuhamilage is a Lecturer in the School of Architecture and Built Environment at the University of Newcastle, part of the College of Engineering, Science and Environment. She earned her Doctor of Philosophy from the Centre for Smart Modern Construction at Western Sydney University in 2023, focusing on a skill profile prediction model for offsite construction typologies that incorporate Industry 4.0-driven emerging technologies. She previously obtained a first-class honours Bachelor of Science in Quantity Surveying from the University of Moratuwa, Sri Lanka, in 2017. Holding dual qualifications, she is an Associate Member of the Chartered Institute of Management Accountants (CIMA), United Kingdom, as a Chartered Global Management Accountant, and a Fellow of AdvanceHE. During her PhD, she led the CIB Student Chapter at Western Sydney University as executive committee president in 2020/21 and established a CIB/ECR Network at the University of Newcastle to foster collaboration and research among higher degree research students and early career researchers. Her career bridges industry practice and academia, driven by a passion to create knowledge and modernize construction education.
Dr. Ginigaddara Appuhamilage's academic interests center on offsite construction, construction skills development, and education in the built environment. She belongs to the Circular Economy and Sustainable Construction research group. Notable publications include the conference paper 'A review of the role of project management offices (PMO) in establishing offsite construction capabilities' (2023, Association of Researchers in Construction Management), 'Offsite construction skills prediction: A conceptual model' (2022, 10th World Construction Symposium), 'Realising United Nations Sustainable Development Goals through Offsite Construction' (2022, AUBEA Conference), and 'Skills Required for Offsite Construction' (2019). Recent contributions feature book chapters such as 'Construction Workforce Profiling and Skill Gaps in Regional NSW: Situational Awareness and Strategic Directions' (2025), 'Integrating Women from Culturally and Linguistically Diverse (CALD) Backgrounds into Construction Workforce: A Review of Literature' (2025), 'Towards Sustainable Offsite Construction: Examining Embodied Energy in Shipping Container Buildings' (2025), and 'The New Generation of Construction Skills: Transition from Onsite to Offsite' (2022). She collaborates with industry organizations, educational institutions, and government bodies in Australia to identify skill needs, develop training programs, recommend policies, promote workforce diversity including migrant women and Gen Z youth, and address skill shortages through digitalisation and industrialisation in modern construction methods. She is available to supervise PhD students as an assistant supervisor.
