Giuseppe Valacchi is the David H. Murdock Distinguished Professor and Professor of Regenerative Medicine in the Department of Animal Science at North Carolina State University. He also holds the title of University Faculty Scholar, awarded in 2022. Valacchi earned a B.S. in Physiology with Laude, an M.S. in Physiopathology, and a Ph.D. in Cellular Physiology and Neuroimmuno-physiology from the University of Siena in Italy. His postdoctoral training included positions at the University of California, Berkeley, and the University of California, Davis, where he later served as junior faculty. He returned to Italy as Assistant Professor at the University of Siena and subsequently held faculty positions at the University of Ferrara, advancing to Full Professor of Physiology. He joined NC State University in 2016.
Valacchi’s research centers on cellular and molecular redox mechanisms underlying physiological and pathological responses to endogenous and exogenous factors, with emphasis on the skin and gut-skin axis. He maintains adjunct and international scholar affiliations, including at Kyung Hee University in South Korea. He has authored more than 300 peer-reviewed publications, numerous book chapters, and books. Valacchi serves as Editor for Archives in Biochemistry and Biophysics and Redox Experimental Medicine, and holds associate editor and editorial board roles for journals including Oxidative Medicine and Cellular Longevity, Mediators of Inflammation, Antioxidants, and Free Radical Biology and Medicine. His honors include the Doctorate Honoris Causa in Biochemistry and Pharmacy from the University of Buenos Aires in 2018 and recognition as President of the Society for Free Radicals Research – Europe.
