Glen Hocky is an Associate Professor of Chemistry at New York University. He earned a B.S. in Chemistry with Honors and a B.A. in Mathematics from the University of Chicago. He received his Ph.D. in Chemical Physics from Columbia University. Prior to joining NYU, Hocky completed postdoctoral research at the University of Chicago in the James Franck Institute and Department of Chemistry.
Hocky’s research focuses on theoretical and computational chemistry, biophysics, and biochemistry, with emphasis on equilibrium and non-equilibrium statistical mechanics, molecular and coarse-grained modeling, free energy and enhanced sampling methods, and the study of liquids, glasses, and disordered systems. He is also a member of the Simons Center for Computational Physical Chemistry at NYU and holds affiliate positions in the NYU Chemical Biology Program, the NYU Langone Biochemistry and Molecular Biophysics program, and the NYU-ECNU Center for Computational Chemistry at NYU Shanghai. His work has been supported by the National Institutes of Health, National Science Foundation, Army Research Office, Department of Energy, Simons Foundation, and Alfred P. Sloan Foundation. Hocky has received several honors, including selection as a 2025 Sloan Research Fellow, the 2024 Biophysical Society Early Career Award from the Theory and Computation Subgroup, and an NIH Maximizing Investigators’ Research Award for Early Stage Investigators. He previously held an NIH Ruth L. Kirschstein National Research Service Award and an NSF Graduate Research Fellowship during his training.
