About Gordon

Gordon Rogers serves as Adjunct Professor of Horticulture in the School of Life and Environmental Sciences, Faculty of Science, at the University of Sydney. He holds a Bachelor of Applied Science (Honours), a Diploma of Education, and a PhD in plant physiology. As Managing Director of Applied Horticultural Research Pty Ltd, Professor Rogers possesses over 30 years of experience in horticultural research, development, and extension in Australia and internationally. His primary academic interests and research specializations include soil health and management, sustainable production systems, protected cropping, greenhouse gas emissions from horticultural crops, climate change physiology, phytonutrients in vegetable and fruit crops, and food production systems in developing countries.

Professor Rogers has managed or led more than 80 major research projects with a total value exceeding $30 million, funded by Horticulture Innovation Australia, Australian DAFF, ACIAR, and the Australian Research Council. He co-convened the International Symposium on Horticulture in Developing Countries and World Food Production at the 29th International Horticultural Congress in Brisbane in 2014 and serves as Vice Chair of the Board of the World Vegetable Centre. Key publications encompass "Interactions Between Rising CO2 Concentration and Nitrogen Supply in Cotton. I. Growth and Leaf Nitrogen Concentration" (1992), "Nitrogen and phosphorus requirements of cotton and wheat under changing atmospheric CO2 concentrations" (1994), "Azospirillum brasilense Enhances Recycling of Fish Effluent to Support Growth of Tomato Seedlings" (2015), "Persistence of Human Pathogens in Manure-Amended Australian Soils Used for Production of Leafy Vegetables" (2021), and "Preliminary N2O Emissions of Major Vegetable Cropping Systems in Peri-urban Hanoi, Vietnam" (2021). His scholarly output has amassed over 2,000 citations, underscoring his influence in advancing sustainable horticultural practices. Professor Rogers has received two medals from the International Society for Horticultural Science.
