Dr. Guadalupe Corral serves as the Director of the Research, Evaluation and Assessment Services (REAS) Center at the University of Texas at El Paso (UTEP), a role in which she leads efforts to support research proposals and project evaluations across campus. She earned her Ph.D. in Experimental Psychology from UTEP in 2011, with her dissertation titled "Does type of stimulus influence task-irrelevant evaluative categorization processes?" investigating cognitive mechanisms in evaluative processing using event-related potentials. Prior to her doctorate, she completed an M.A. in Sociology at UTEP in 2005. Throughout her career at UTEP, Corral has progressed through key administrative roles, including Manager of the Office of Research and Sponsored Projects (ORSP) and contributions to the Institute for Policy and Economic Development (IPED). During this time, she authored or co-authored numerous technical reports, such as the 2009 Workforce Solutions - URG Employee Survey, 2008 City of El Paso Business Climate Survey, The El Paso Zoo: 2008 Economic Impact on El Paso, Texas, and the 2010 Economic Impact of The University of Texas at El Paso.
Corral's academic publications reflect her expertise in cognitive psychology and research evaluation. Notable works include "Wait, what? Assessing stereotype incongruities using the N400 ERP component" published in Brain Research in 2009, "An event-related potential paradigm for identifying (rare negative) attitude stimuli that people intentionally misreport" in 2010, and conference papers on secondary categorization processes using event-related potentials in 2007. In recent years, she has contributed to interdisciplinary efforts in undergraduate research training, co-authoring "BUILDing SCHOLARS: enhancing diversity among U.S. biomedical undergraduate researchers" in 2017 and "BUILDing SCHOLARS: A program exemplar at a Hispanic serving institution to develop biomedical researchers" in PLOS ONE in 2024. Under her leadership since 2013, the REAS Center has grown to evaluate 27 active projects associated with over $70 million in funding, contributing cumulatively to more than $100 million in awarded grants. REAS offers free evaluation planning for proposals, fee-for-service project evaluations, data collection via surveys and interviews, rigorous assessment tools, student mentorship, hands-on research experiences, and collaborations with regional entities including the City of El Paso, El Paso Community College, and Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center El Paso. These initiatives bolster UTEP's research competitiveness, student skill development, and success in pursuing advanced degrees and careers in research-intensive fields.
