Dr Hasibul Chowdhury serves as a Senior Lecturer in Finance at the University of Queensland Business School. He earned his BBA in Finance and MBA in Banking from the University of Dhaka, an MBA in Finance from Tulane University, and a PhD in Finance from the University of Queensland. In addition, he holds the Higher Education Academy Fellowship (FHEA) awarded by Advance HE, United Kingdom. Chowdhury is committed to fostering a high-quality learning environment through active learning strategies that enhance student understanding and engagement in finance topics.
His research specializes in corporate finance, executive compensation, and corporate social responsibility. Chowdhury has published numerous papers in top-tier journals, including "Do tournament incentives affect corporate dividend policy?" (Journal of Banking and Finance, 2023), "Tournament-based incentives and the lease-versus-buy decision" (Journal of Banking and Finance, 2023), "Corporate cash holdings through economic policy uncertainty: An Australian study" (Pacific-Basin Finance Journal, 2023), "Acquisitions and social capital" (Journal of Business Finance and Accounting, 2024), "U.S. Political corruption and labor investment (in)efficiency" (Global Finance Journal, 2024), "Natural Disasters and Corporate Default Risk" (International Review of Economics & Finance, 2026), "Investor overconfidence and stock price crash risk" (Journal of Accounting Literature, 2025), and "Does a CEO's network capital affect workplace safety?" (The Financial Review, 2025). He serves as an editorial board member for the Journal of International Financial Management & Accounting. Chowdhury received research funding from the Accounting and Finance Association of Australia and New Zealand (AFAANZ) for 2018-2019 on revealing crash risk perception from analyst coverage. He has supervised multiple PhD theses to completion, such as "Essays on Investor Overconfidence" (2025) and "Essays on Insider Trading" (2025), and currently supervises projects on debt contracting, political corruption and insider trading, and climate change risk and labor investment efficiency. Additionally, he is an affiliate of the Centre for Behavioural and Economic Science and the Centre for Unified Behavioural and Economic Sciences.
