Hiroaki Kajiyama is a Professor in the Graduate School of Medicine at Nagoya University, where he serves in the Program in Integrated Medicine, Medicine in Growth and Aging, and as Director of the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology. He earned his medical degree from the Nagoya University Faculty of Medicine in 1995 and completed his doctoral studies at the Nagoya University Graduate School, Division of Medical Sciences, receiving his degree in 2002.
His primary research interests lie in gynecologic oncology within the broader field of obstetrics and gynecology. Kajiyama has authored or co-authored numerous peer-reviewed papers on topics including ovarian clear cell carcinoma, fertility-sparing surgery, retroperitoneal lymphadenectomy, chemoresistance mechanisms such as epithelial-mesenchymal transition, peritoneal metastasis involving SDF-1alpha/CXCR4 and DPPIV/CD26 pathways, and the role of Twist expression in prognosis. Notable publications include studies from 2002 to 2008 on dipeptidyl peptidase IV overexpression in ovarian carcinoma, Twist as a predictor of poor outcome in clear cell carcinoma, and the impact of lymphadenectomy on survival. In 2007, he received the Academic Encouragement Award from the Japan Society of Obstetrics and Gynecology. He maintains memberships in professional organizations including the Japan Society of Obstetrics and Gynecology, the Japanese Gynecologic Oncology Group, and others, and holds qualifications as a specialist and instructor in obstetrics and gynecology as well as gynecologic oncology.
