Ms Isabelle Barnes is the Research Coordinator for the Australian Longitudinal Study on Women’s Health (ALSWH) and the Centre for Women’s Health Research in the College of Health, Medicine and Wellbeing at the University of Newcastle. She holds a Master of Public Health from the University of Sydney, a Bachelor of Clinical Science from Macquarie University, and a Diploma of Leadership and Management from Statewide Business Training. Her fields of research include public health not elsewhere classified (50%), women’s studies including girls’ studies (25%), and epidemiology not elsewhere classified (25%). Barnes commenced her tenure at the Centre for Women’s Health Research as a Research Assistant in August 2018, progressed to Research Officer in February 2020, became Senior Research Officer in April 2022, and took on the role of Research Coordinator in June 2023. Prior to this, she served as a Research Assistant at Macquarie University’s Australian Institute of Health and Innovation from July to November 2017.
In her current role, Barnes manages several research projects spanning development, implementation, staff management, and training, while providing strategic support. She leads ethics applications for ALSWH, including the design of study materials that meet ethical and regulatory standards. Her expertise covers qualitative analysis, longitudinal survey development, participant recruitment, and retention strategies. Committed to influencing policy and practice, she contributes to government inquiry submissions and translates research into accessible formats. Barnes has presented findings, including at a workshop on preventable harms and dismissed voices in Australian women with Asherman’s Syndrome, 2025.
