Dr. Ivano Bongiovanni is a Senior Lecturer in Cybersecurity Management at the UQ Business School, University of Queensland, and General Manager of AUSCERT, a not-for-profit organisation affiliated with UQ that delivers cybersecurity services to public and private sector organisations across Australia and New Zealand. He is also an affiliate of the UQ Cyber Research Centre. Bongiovanni's research revolves around the managerial and business implications of cybersecurity, particularly cybersecurity governance and leadership, human factors in cybersecurity, user-centric information security systems, root cause analysis, and organisational vulnerability assessment. He additionally applies design thinking and design-led innovation to help organisations address complex challenges, having facilitated more than 50 design-led workshops and projects since 2015. His academic qualifications include a Doctor of Philosophy from Queensland University of Technology (2016) with a thesis on safety and security management in Australian airports, as well as dual Master's degrees: Management of Public Administrations and International Institutions from Bocconi University, Milan, and International Security from Sciences Po, Paris.
Bongiovanni's professional career bridges academia, industry, and public service. Previous roles include Research Fellow at the Adam Smith Business School, University of Glasgow; Postdoctoral Fellow at the PwC Chair in Digital Economy, Queensland University of Technology; faculty member and consultant at Bocconi University and SDA Bocconi School of Management in Milan for three years; Deputy Venue Security Manager at the XX Winter Olympic Games, Turin 2006; and Police Officer for the Italian Ministry of Interior. He advises ministers, policymakers, board members, and executives on cybersecurity strategies, governance, policies, and training. Key publications encompass "Designing a financial quantification model for cyber risk: a case study in a bank" (2023), "Governing cybersecurity from the boardroom: challenges, drivers, and ways ahead" (2022), "Securing intellectual capital: an exploratory study in Australian universities" (2020), "The least secure places in the universe? A systematic literature review on information security management in higher education" (2019), and "Unravelling the three lines model in cybersecurity" (2024). His scholarship, comprising 23 journal articles and 10 book chapters among others, has amassed over 800 citations, shaping evidence-based cybersecurity practices across sectors.
