Professor Jack Anderson is a Professor of Law and Director of Sports Law Studies at Melbourne Law School, University of Melbourne. He joined Melbourne Law School in July 2017. Anderson lectures on criminal law, tort law, and sports law within the Melbourne JD program, including the subject Legal Method and Reasoning. His primary research interest is the relationship between sport and the law. He has authored key books in sports law, including The Legality of Boxing (Routledge, 2007), Modern Sports Law (Hart Publishing, 2010), and Sports Law: A Concise Introduction (Edward Elgar Publishing, 2023). He co-edited Landmark Cases in Sports Law (Asser Press, 2013) and EU Sports Law (Edward Elgar Publishing, 2018). Anderson is a contributing editor for Sports Law in Australia (4th edition, Oxford University Press, 2022) and the Encyclopedia of Sports Law (Edward Elgar Publishing, 2025).
Professor Anderson holds significant roles in sports governance and dispute resolution. He serves as an arbitrator for the Disciplinary Tribunals of Football Victoria, Hockey Australia, and Rugby Australia, the National Dispute Resolution Chamber of Football Australia, and the National Sports Tribunal of Australia. He is Ethics Commissioner for the International Tennis Federation's Ethics Commission and was appointed inaugural Ethics Chief for World Boxing. Anderson is a member of the Board of Directors of Sport Resolutions and the Editorial Board of LawInSport.com. He also acts as a mediator and arbitrator at the Court of Arbitration for Sport. Through his academic work, publications, and involvement in international sports integrity, Anderson contributes substantially to the field of sports law.
