Jack Bieger, D.M., is an Associate Professor of Criminal Justice at Montana State University Northern, contributing to the Social Science faculty. He holds a Doctor of Management in Organizational Leadership from the University of Phoenix (2015), a Master of Science in Administration of Justice and Security (2010), and a Bachelor of Science in Organizational Security and Management (2008), all from the University of Phoenix. Bieger brings nearly 30 years of professional experience in law enforcement, security, and force protection across city, county, federal, and military capacities. His career highlights include serving as Chief of Police at Naval Support Activity Bethesda (2009-2013) and Fort A.P. Hill (2013-2015), Police Officer and Corporal at the National Institutes of Health Police and National Naval Medical Center, Deputy Sheriff at the City of Richmond Sheriff’s Office (2000-2002), and multiple Master-at-Arms roles in the U.S. Navy, such as Investigator on USS Coronado (1996-2000) and Criminal Investigator at Naval Air Station Alameda (1992-1994). He retired from the U.S. Navy Reserves as Chief, Master-at-Arms (E-7) in 2009 after 25.5 years of service, including 12 years active duty.
Since August 2016, Bieger has taught a range of courses at Montana State University Northern, including Introduction to Criminal Justice, Criminal Justice and Community Relations, Introduction to Corrections, Police Organization and Behavior, American Law, Juvenile Justice, Criminal Justice Ethics, Addictive Studies, and special topics seminars on Introduction to Probation, Diversity in Criminal Justice, Administration of Law Enforcement, Gender, Crime, and Justice, Emergency Management, Homeland Security, Sociology of Violence, and Investigations. He has also instructed as an adjunct professor at Aaniiih Nakoda College, Stone Child College, Helena College of the University of Montana, and Strayer University, covering similar criminal justice subjects. Bieger's research examines behavioral attitudes among police recruits, detailed in his 2015 doctoral dissertation, "Examining Behavioral Attitudes among Police Recruits during the Police Academy with a Family Connection," and presented at the American Society of Criminology Annual Meeting in 2019. Additional presentations include Criminal Justice topics at MSUN Tech-no-Expo/Show CASE (2017-2022) and Great Falls College events. His honors include the Patriotic Employer Award (2014), Federal Employee Cash Award (2013), Navy Commendation Medal (2009), multiple Navy Achievement Medals, and several Federal Employee Time-Off Awards.
