Great Professor!
Jacqueline Ramagge is Professor of Mathematics in the School of Mathematics and Statistics, Faculty of Science, at the University of Sydney. She completed her BA (First Class Honours) in Mathematics in 1988, MSc in Mathematics in 1990, and PhD in Mathematics in 1993, all at the University of Warwick in the UK. Her PhD thesis, "On some twisted Kac-Moody groups," was supervised by Roger Carter. Prior to joining the University of Sydney in 2015, she held academic positions progressing from Levels A to E at the University of Newcastle from 1993 to 2007 and at the University of Wollongong from 2007 to 2015.
Ramagge's research focuses on operator algebras, particularly C*-algebras and their equilibrium states, the structure theory of totally disconnected locally compact groups, Hecke algebras, buildings, and self-similar actions. Key publications include "Affine Hecke algebras, cyclotomic Hecke algebras and Clifford theory" (2003), "A Haagerup inequality for A1 x A1 and A2 buildings" (1998), "Equilibrium states on the Cuntz-Pimsner algebras of self-similar actions" (2014), "Zappa-Szép products of semigroups and their C*-algebras" (2014), "Equilibrium states on operator algebras associated to self-similar actions" (2018), and "Phase transition on Exel crossed products associated to dilation matrices" (2011). She has published 28 research papers, secured 10 Australian Research Council grants since 2002, and contributed to the Baum-Connes conjecture through work on buildings. From 2016 to 2019, she served as Head of the School of Mathematics and Statistics, spearheading the creation of the Sydney Mathematical Research Institute and raising $6.5 million in philanthropic funds from the Simon Marais Foundation, Hooper Shaw Foundation, and others. Additional roles include President of the Australian Mathematical Society (2019-2020), Chief Editor of the Australian Mathematical Society Lecture Series (2017-2019), and Chair of the Australian Council of Heads of Maths and Stats. Honors encompass Fellow of the Australian Mathematical Society (2014), Fellow of the Royal Society of New South Wales (2019), BH Neumann Prize (1992), and BH Neumann Award (2013).
