JD Van Alstyne is an Assistant Teaching Professor of Management at the University of Oregon's Lundquist College of Business. He earned his MBA with a specialization in Sustainable Business Practices and a BS in Business Administration, both from the University of Oregon. Van Alstyne first joined the Lundquist College of Business in 2022 as a Graduate Career Advisor in Mohr Career Services before advancing to his current faculty position. In addition to teaching management courses, he serves as Co-director of the Lundquist Flight School, a program supporting first-year students, working alongside Lorena Landeros to facilitate their transition and development. He also participated in the University of Oregon's 2024-2025 Leadership Academy cohort as Graduate Career Advisor from the Lundquist College of Business and Mohr Career Services, contributing to institutional leadership development.
Prior to his academic roles, JD Van Alstyne held leadership positions in the nonprofit and food and beverage industries. He served as Executive Director of Nourish International, a nonprofit organization dedicated to supporting the personal and professional success of student leaders pursuing social impact careers. His professional experience in these sectors informs his teaching and career advising, particularly in sustainable business practices. In 2023, Van Alstyne authored the article "Six Steps to a Purpose-Driven Career," published on the Mohr Career Services blog, providing guidance on clarifying interests, understanding sectors, leveraging strengths, targeting organizations, gaining experience, and building relationships for careers in sustainability and social impact.
