Associate Professor Jenny Sim is an Honorary Associate Professor in the School of Nursing and Midwifery, School of Medicine and Public Health, College of Health, Medicine and Wellbeing at the University of Newcastle. She commenced her role as Associate Professor in Nursing in the School of Nursing and Midwifery at the University of Newcastle in May 2021, also serving as Head of Postgraduate (Coursework) and Higher Degree Research Convenor. Prior to this appointment, she held the position of Senior Lecturer in Nursing in the Faculty of Science, Medicine and Health, School of Nursing at the University of Wollongong from January 2014 to May 2021, and Lecturer in Nursing there from January 2008 to December 2013. Earlier in her career, Sim was Director of Nursing and Manager in the South Eastern Sydney and Illawarra Local Health District from January 2003 to December 2007, Deputy Director of Nursing from February 1998 to December 2001, Nurse Unit Manager from February 1998 to December 2001, and Registered Nurse in various organisations from January 1992 to January 1998. She holds a Doctor of Philosophy from the University of Wollongong, completed in 2015, and a Bachelor of Applied Science (Nursing) from the University of Sydney.
Jenny Sim's research specializations encompass patient safety research, outcomes of nursing practice, measuring nursing contribution to patient outcomes, pressure injury prevention, nursing-sensitive patient outcomes including pressure injuries, falls, healthcare-associated infections, and medication errors, nursing workforce, acute care, sub-acute care, patient experience, and scholarship of teaching and learning. Her fields of research are acute care (60%), nursing workforce (20%), and sub-acute care (20%). She has been recognized with the Global Nursing Leadership Institute Alumni award from the International Council of Nurses in 2021 and the UOW Impact Maker award from the University of Wollongong in 2018.
