Jessica Premier is a Lecturer in the School of Curriculum, Teaching and Inclusive Education within the Faculty of Education at Monash University. She serves as the Course Leader for the Diploma of Tertiary Studies (DoTS) and Diploma of Higher Education (DoHE), and teaches units in the Bachelor of Education and Master of Teaching programs. Prior to joining Monash University, Jessica held classroom teaching and leadership positions in primary and secondary schools, as well as in tertiary English language centres in Australia and Norway. Her international teaching experiences have shaped her commitment to research in English as an Additional Language (EAL), literacy, and equity and inclusion in education.
Jessica's research interests encompass TESOL, languages, literatures and literacies, equity, diversity and inclusion in education, literacy education, and EAL. She has led and contributed to professional learning projects, such as programs for 21 TESOL teachers from Zhejiang Province, China, and similar initiatives for the Zhejiang Provincial Department of Education. Key publications include 'Becoming teachers: navigating identity tensions in the transition from preparation to practice' (Veliz et al., 2026, System), 'Using music to enhance English language learning' (Premier, 2026, Diversity and Inclusivity in English Language Education), 'Teaching English as an additional language (EAL) students in content areas' (Premier, 2024, Monash University working paper), 'Editorial: teaching EAL/D learners across the curriculum' (Veliz, Bonar & Premier, 2023, TESOL in Context), and 'Teaching for social justice in higher education: reflexive and critical auto-ethnographic narratives of hope, resilience, and change' (Sanjakdar & Premier, 2023, Teaching and Teacher Education). Additional works feature 'The distributed knowledge base: Preservice language teachers’ positioning in language–content teacher collaboration' (Nguyen, Turner & Premier, 2023) and 'Teachers’ Experiences of Educating EAL Students in Mainstream Primary and Secondary Classrooms' (Premier, 2021). In recognition of her contributions, Jessica received the Higher Education Academy Fellowship (FHEA) in 2023. She has undertaken editorial roles as guest editor for TESOL in Context, peer reviewer for Teaching and Teacher Education, and organizer for events including the Diversity and Inclusivity in English Language Education Conference (2024) and AARE Teacher Education and Research Innovation SIG event (2023).
