Dr. Jue (Grace) Xie is a Lecturer and Research Fellow in human-computer interaction at the Action Lab within the Department of Human Centred Computing, Faculty of Information Technology at Monash University. She earned a Bachelor of Information Management, a Master of Information Technology, and a PhD in Information Systems from Monash University in 2012. With over 20 years of experience as a senior software engineer, she began her career in 2002 as a research programmer, advancing to software architect. Her contributions span interdisciplinary projects at the Monash Centre for Distributed Systems and Software Engineering, Microsoft Research Asia, and Monash Centre for Organisational and Social Informatics. Between 2012 and 2017, she taught and coordinated the double Master of Information Technology Systems program at the Southeast University-Monash University Joint Graduate School in Suzhou, China. Previously, as head of development and full-time researcher at the Monash Centre for Health Research and Implementation, she led the creation of award-winning web and mobile applications applying AI for public healthcare improvements.
Dr. Xie's research focuses on software architectures, web information systems, consumer health informatics, knowledge engineering, applied conversational AI, and leveraging social media for community coordination. She developed AskPCOS, a personalized mobile lifestyle intervention for managing Polycystic Ovary Syndrome, adopted by thousands of women in over 90 countries. Her recent publications include 'Using Co-Design to Adapt a Digital Parenting Program for Parents Seeking Mental Health Support' (2026, Children), 'A Qualitative Study Exploring Physician Perspectives on a Cardiac-Based Seizure Prediction Digital Service for Epilepsy Management' (2025, Epilepsy & Behavior), and 'Co-Design of a Single Session Intervention Chatbot for People on Waitlists for Eating Disorder Treatment' (2025, Journal of Eating Disorders). Recognized for her impact, she received the highly commended Engineering category award at the 2022 Women Leading Tech Awards and was a recipient at the Future Women Leaders Conference 2019. A fellow of the Association for Information Systems and IEEE, she lectures in mobile and distributed computing systems, service-oriented computing, web services, and enterprise application development, contributing to SDG 3: Good Health and Well-being through digital health innovations.
