Julian O'Hagan serves as a Professional Practice Fellow in the School of Physiotherapy at the University of Otago, contributing to both clinical practice and education at the Dunedin Physiotherapy Clinics. He holds a Graduate Diploma in Physiotherapy from the University of Otago. With a career spanning multiple areas of physiotherapy both nationally within New Zealand and overseas, his work has primarily been situated in the health and education sectors. In his current clinical role, O'Hagan is based in the Balance, Dizziness, and Vertigo Clinic. Here, he specializes in the assessment and rehabilitation of vestibular disorders and concussion for patients across paediatric and adult populations. His areas of expertise include vestibular medicine, neurology, paediatrics, balance, dizziness and vertigo, falls prevention, concussion, and rehabilitation. He actively keeps up to date with the latest in concussion management and explores the application of polyvagal theory in clinical settings. Additionally, O'Hagan integrates a holistic yoga philosophy into his clinic practice and daily lifestyle, and he is qualified to teach learning-to-swim skills to young people with disabilities.
O'Hagan's teaching responsibilities involve supervising undergraduate students in vestibular rehabilitation within the clinic setting, addressing concussion, balance, and dizziness issues through theoretical and practical training. He also delivers instruction in hydrotherapy and manual handling. In terms of research, he collaborates with academic staff on projects featuring a clinical focus in the physiotherapy clinic. Furthermore, he maintains active memberships in Physiotherapy New Zealand and the Neurology Special Interest Group of Physiotherapy New Zealand.
