Dr. Julie Howard is an Associate Professor of Library Science in the Department of Curriculum and Instruction at Tennessee Technological University’s College of Education and Human Sciences. She earned her Ph.D. from Tennessee Technological University in 2008 and has been teaching at the institution for over 16 years. Prior to her academic career, Dr. Howard worked as a librarian at Tennessee Technological University, Motlow State Community College, and Middle Tennessee State University, bringing valuable practical experience to her role as the primary instructor for the graduate concentration in School Library Science. Her expertise enables her to emphasize the collaboration essential between librarians and all aspects of school learning communities, fostering the principle that lifelong readers equate to lifelong learners.
Dr. Howard’s research interests include school libraries, makerspaces, young adult literature, diversity, library sciences, technology, and artificial intelligence. She is recognized as an avid promoter of books and an enthusiast of audiobooks, passionately encouraging reading among students and future educators. Dr. Howard maintains an active presence in university service, having served as a contact for nominations related to the Commission on the Status of Women awards, which honor women’s leadership and equality efforts at Tennessee Tech. Her office is located in Bartoo Hall 202, Box 5042, where she supports students in the Education faculty through her dedicated instruction and mentorship.
