Jung-Joo Lee is an Associate Professor and Deputy Head (Research) in the Division of Industrial Design at the College of Design and Engineering, National University of Singapore. She holds a PhD from Aalto University in Finland (2012), an MSc in Industrial Design from the Korea Advanced Institute of Science and Technology (KAIST, 2007), and a BSc in Industrial Design from KAIST (2005). Her academic career at NUS began in 2014 as Assistant Professor, advancing to her current role in 2024. Prior to NUS, she served as a Postdoctoral Researcher at Aalto University from 2013 to 2014.
Lee’s research focuses on service design, particularly for public sector innovation in Asia, emerging technologies, co-design, and empathic design. She has led or co-led multiple research grants from Singapore’s Ministry of Education, National Research Foundation, and other agencies, addressing topics such as digital government services, future mobility, nursing home design, and human-centric built environments. Her contributions include numerous peer-reviewed journal articles and conference papers in venues such as the International Journal of Design, ACM CHI, and DIS, along with a book co-authored in 2018. Lee has received multiple NUS teaching excellence awards, including the University Teaching Excellence Award in 2022 and 2023, as well as best paper awards at ACM DIS conferences. She serves on editorial boards, conference program committees, and has directed the Service Design Lab Singapore.
