Professor Kamal Munir is Pro-Vice-Chancellor for University Community and Engagement and Professor of Strategy and Policy at the University of Cambridge. He is a Professorial Fellow of Homerton College and serves as Academic Director of the Centre for Strategic Philanthropy. He holds a PhD from McGill University and previously taught at McGill University from 1996 to 2000 before joining the University of Cambridge. His research interests include institutional change and stasis, strategy in turbulent and disruptive environments, platform-based strategy, business models, economic development, and national competitiveness. He has published extensively in leading journals such as Administrative Science Quarterly, Academy of Management Journal, Journal of Management Studies, Organization Studies, and Annals of the Academy of Management, with notable works including papers on the organizational reproduction of inequality (2020), yoga’s transformation into a global market (2021), and formal dining rituals at Cambridge colleges (2010). He has also authored or co-authored books and reports, including Reimagining philanthropy in the global South (2024). Professor Munir has received awards including the Tamgha-e-Imtiaz from the President of Pakistan, the First Henry Mintzberg Distinguished Alumni Award from McGill University (2021), and the Cambridge Judge Business School Faculty Award for Research Impact (2021). He has consulted for organizations including the World Bank and Asian Development Bank, contributed to Pakistan’s industrial policy, and held editorial roles such as Senior Editor of Organization Studies. He is frequently cited in media outlets including the BBC, Financial Times, and Wall Street Journal.
