Dr. Nowrozy Kamar Jahan is a Senior Lecturer in Global Public Health at the Monash Medical Precinct, Segamat, within the Jeffrey Cheah School of Medicine and Health Sciences, Monash University Malaysia. She earned her Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery (MBBS) from Sylhet M.A.G. Osmani Medical College, Bangladesh in 1993, a Master's in Population and Reproductive Health Research from Mahidol University, Thailand in 2003, and a PhD in Population Health from Mahidol University in 2007. Her graduate studies were funded by the Wellcome Trust fellowship for doctoral research (2004-2007) and the MEASURE Evaluation fellowship for her master's program (2002-2003). Early in her career, Jahan worked as a Medical Officer and Project Manager at the Bangladesh Women's Health Coalition (1996-1997), Assistant Director-Health there (1997-1999), Program Officer for Health, Population and Nutrition at Save the Children Federation (1999-2000), and held progressive roles at EngenderHealth Bangladesh, including Program Officer for Post-Abortion Care (2000-2004), Senior Program Officer for Maternal Health (2008-2009), and Team Leader for the Maternal Health Program (2009-2011). She completed a Post-Doctoral Research Fellowship jointly at University Malaya, Malaysia and Queen's University Belfast, United Kingdom (2012-2013).
Since joining Monash University Malaysia in May 2013 as Lecturer in Global Public Health and Research Fellow with the South East Asia Community Observatory (SEACO), Jahan has advanced to Senior Lecturer. Her research specializations encompass population health, reproductive health, communicable and non-communicable diseases, adolescent and maternal health. She teaches courses in public health, clinical anatomy, and rural medicine, facilitating practical sessions and panel discussions during student rural postings in Segamat. Notable publications include 'Community-based heat adaptation interventions for improving heat literacy, behaviours, and health outcomes: a systematic review' (2025), 'Does COVID-19 Affect Third Molar Surgery Complications? —A Retrospective Cross-Sectional Study in Hospital Segamat of Southern Malaysia' (2025), 'Bacteriological Profile and Antibiotic Sensitivity Patterns in Children with Urinary Tract Infection: A Cross-Sectional Study in the Northern Part of Bangladesh' (2023), 'Seroprevalence of dengue among healthy adults in a rural community in Southern Malaysia' (2018), 'Poor glycaemic control and its metabolic and demographic risk factors in a Malaysian community-based study' (2018), and 'The rural bite in population pyramids: what are the implications for responsiveness of health systems in middle income countries?' (2014). Her contributions advance public health research in Southeast Asia.
