Karin Kelly, a prominent figure in communications and film education at Drexel University, holds the position of Department Head for the Cinema & Television department in the Antoinette Westphal College of Media Arts & Design. She obtained her Master of Fine Arts in Film from New York University (NYU). Throughout her career, Kelly has distinguished herself as an independent filmmaker, having assistant-directed numerous television commercials and feature films. Furthermore, she has taken on creative roles in writing, producing, and directing diverse projects such as music videos, corporate videos, and short narrative films. At present, she is actively involved in the post-production phase of her most recent film project titled L’Inverno.
Complementing her practical experience, Kelly has garnered significant recognition in the industry, including fellowships with major studios Warner Bros. and Paramount Pictures. She also participated in the prestigious Sundance Institute Screenwriters Intensive and received the Princess Grace Foundation Grant. In her academic capacity at Drexel University, Kelly has held key leadership positions. She served for many years as the Director of the Film & Video program before being appointed as Interim Department Head of Cinema & Television in September 2015, a position she maintains today. Additionally, approximately ten years ago, she established the Drexel in LA program, which offers students immersive opportunities in the heart of the film industry in Los Angeles. Kelly has made notable contributions to film literature as co-author of the book "Film School Confidential: The Insider's Guide to Film Schools," published in 2007 by Berkeley Publishing Group in collaboration with Tom Edgar. Earlier in her career, she co-authored "Careers with the Circus," a publication from Lerner Publications in 1975 with Milton J. Blumenfeld.
