Karolina Krysinska, MA, PhD, is a Research Fellow at the School of Public Health and Preventive Medicine, Monash University, and an Adjunct Research Fellow in the Chronic Disease & Ageing group. She obtained her PhD in Psychology in 2001 and has worked as a researcher, lecturer, and psychologist in the field of mental health for over 25 years. Her career spans multiple institutions across Poland, Australia, and Belgium. She began as Lecturer and Associate Professor at Adam Mickiewicz University in Poznan, Poland (1995-2004), followed by Research Fellow at Griffith University, Brisbane (2004-2007), Research Officer at the University of Queensland (2008-2009), Post-doctoral Researcher at KU Leuven, Belgium (2011-2014), and Psychologist at Tele-Onthaal (Tele-Help), Belgium (2011-2013). In Australia, she served as Coordinator and Senior Research Officer at the NHMRC Centre of Research Excellence in Suicide Prevention, Black Dog Institute, UNSW (2014-2015), and held positions at the Dementia Center for Research Collaboration and the Centre for Primary Health Care and Equity, University of New South Wales, before joining Monash.
Dr. Krysinska's research interests include dementia, suicide research and prevention, mental health, psychology of trauma, and psychology of religion. She has produced 155 research outputs, comprising 84 journal articles, 25 review articles, 20 book chapters, and 5 commissioned reports. Notable publications include "Suicide prevention during disasters and public health emergencies: a systematic review" (Reifels, L., Krysinska, K., & Andriessen, K., 2024, Frontiers in Public Health), "Evaluation of a New Online Program for Children Bereaved by Suicide: The Views of Children, Parents, and Facilitators" (Krysinska, K., Currier, D., & Andriessen, K., 2024, Archives of Suicide Research), "Grief Instruments in Children and Adolescents: A Systematic Review" (Zhang, T. et al., 2025, OMEGA - Journal of Death and Dying), and the book "Suicide and Other Violence Toward the Self" (Lester, D. & Krysinska, K. E.). Her work contributes to UN Sustainable Development Goals including Good Health and Well-being, Gender Equality, and Peace, Justice and Strong Institutions.
