Dr. Katrin Oliver is a Lecturer at Turning Point, the Hamilton Centre, Statewide Centre for Addiction and Mental Health, affiliated with Monash University in the Faculty of Medicine, Nursing and Health Sciences. She earned a Doctor of Philosophy in Social Work from Monash University in 2023, a Master of Health Science (Alcohol and Other Drugs) from the University of Newcastle in 2014, a Bachelor of Social Work with Honours from Monash University in 2010, and a Bachelor of Arts from Swinburne University of Technology in 1995. An Accredited Mental Health Social Worker, she possesses extensive clinical and leadership experience in the alcohol and other drugs (AOD) sector. Her career trajectory includes serving as National Clinical Practice Lead for Social Work and Counselling at EACH Limited from August 2021 to March 2023, AOD Counselling Clinician at EACH Limited from June 2013 to March 2023, Community Development and Outreach Worker at Salvation Army Australia from January 2011 to May 2013, and Case Manager at FamilyCare (Australia) from March 2009 to January 2011. Appointed to her current lecturing role at Turning Point, Monash University in April 2023, Katrin oversees the preparation and delivery of professional learning and engagement programs for the integrated care workforce, while exploring innovative teaching methods to enhance workforce capacity.
Katrin's academic interests center on workforce training and development, addiction, mental health, recovery, place-based influences, qualitative research, integrated care, and implementation science. Her doctoral research delved into place-based influences on AOD recovery, cultivating a persistent focus on environmental impacts on health and wellbeing. She draws on her strengths in clinical social work expertise in AOD and mental health, community clinical leadership, health education design and delivery, and qualitative research skills to contribute to the Hamilton Centre's research agenda, which includes integrated care, novel interventions, and their implementation and translation. Notable publications include "Putting tendencies and trajectories to work: useful tools for engaging with accounts of change and recovery?" (International Journal of Drug Policy, 2024, with Michael Savic), "Integrated care in action: Exploring barriers and opportunities through co-design" (Drug and Alcohol Review, 2024, with Shalini Arunogiri, Ali Cheetham et al.), "Social contact interventions to reduce substance use disorder stigma among healthcare providers: A scoping review" (Drug and Alcohol Review, 2024, with Ali Cheetham, Shalini Arunogiri, Dan I. Lubman), "AOD consumption and the production of health in a semi-rural place" (2021), and "Home, Hope, Heart: Restoring Sense of Place After Black Saturday" (New Community Quarterly, 2012). Katrin accepts PhD students as an associate supervisor for projects related to integrated care.
