Keijiro Haruki is a doctoral student in the Graduate School of Integrated Science and Technology at Nagasaki University, affiliated with the Faculty of Fisheries and the Institute of Integrated Science and Technology. His research examines the behavioral ecology of Japanese pygmy octopuses (Octopus parvus), including seasonal occurrence in intertidal zones, growth, maturation, feeding habits, arm loss frequency, and sex differences in arm usage.
He has contributed to studies published in journals such as Ethology, with findings on how male octopuses avoid using the hectocotylized arm under unpredictable risks and comparisons of arm loss in small coastal octopus species. Haruki has collaborated with researchers including Yuta Yamate and Takeshi Takegaki on fieldwork and tank experiments along the Nagasaki coast.
