Kristina Miranda is the Department Chair of Biology at Tarrant County College South Campus, where she has served as an instructor for over seventeen years. Her career at the institution began as an instructional associate preparing biology laboratories. Prior to her master's degree from the University of Texas at Arlington, where she taught undergraduate classes, Miranda taught biology for four years at Joshua High School. In recognition of her outstanding contributions to teaching, she received the 2014 Chancellor's Award for Exemplary Teaching at the South Campus. As Department Chair, she oversees the Biology department and maintains contact through phone at 817-515-4885 and email.
Miranda teaches a range of biology courses, including microbiology for majors, microbiology for non-majors, nursing microbiology, and environmental biology in online formats. She previously instructed anatomy. Her pedagogical approach emphasizes student engagement through analogies, memory techniques, interactive Q&A sessions, class discussions, and relatable storytelling to demystify complex topics in molecular biology and related fields. By introducing herself and her family on the first day of class, she creates a comfortable environment that encourages students to seek help with challenging material. Beyond direct instruction, Miranda has actively participated in faculty governance as a Faculty Association liaison, collaborating with the chancellor and administrators to amplify faculty perspectives across the district. A notable achievement includes launching a majors-level microbiology course at South Campus, previously unavailable there. Her work supports laboratory-based learning and biological sciences education, contributing to student success in foundational and applied biology disciplines at Tarrant County College.
