She has secured more than $80 million in grant funding and mentored numerous medical students, residents, fellows, and junior faculty. Her contributions earned her the 2020 Distinguished Faculty Award from Duke University School of Medicine, election as a Fellow of the American Academy of Arts and Sciences in 2021, and membership in the National Academy of Medicine, American Society for Clinical Investigation, and Association of American Physicians. As a national leader in health disparities research, she has delivered invited lectures and facilitated the translation of scientific discoveries into clinical and community practice.
