Larry Chavis served as Clinical Professor of Strategy and Entrepreneurship at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill’s Kenan-Flagler Business School for 18 years. He earned his Ph.D. in economics from Stanford Graduate School of Management, with training focused on international development and applied microeconomics. A member of the Lumbee Tribe of North Carolina, Chavis directed the UNC American Indian Center from 2017 to 2021. He taught a range of economics and business courses and received five teaching awards during his tenure. Chavis was honored with eagle feathers by two North Carolina tribes and inducted into the university’s Order of the Golden Fleece, its oldest honor society. He recently completed an MFA in creative writing at the Institute of American Indian Arts.
