Laura Glisson is a certified practising speech pathologist affiliated with the Curtin School of Allied Health within the Faculty of Health Sciences at Curtin University. She serves as Fieldwork Director for the Bachelor of Science (Speech Pathology) program and is pursuing a Master of Philosophy at the university. Glisson holds a Bachelor of Science in Human Communication Science (2006-2009) and additional qualifications in Speech Pathology (2015-2017) from Curtin University, along with professional certifications as a Member of Speech Pathology Australia (MSPA) and Certified Practising Speech Pathologist (CPSP). With over 13 years of experience supporting school-aged children and young people with language, literacy, and social-emotional difficulties, her career includes roles as Support Officer Speech and Language and Outreach Coordinator at the North East Metropolitan Language Development Centre (2010-2018), where she delivered professional learning to approximately 160 mainstream schools across multiple regions in Western Australia. From 2018 to 2021, she worked at Moor House School & College in Surrey, England, leading a team of speech and language therapists for Years 3-9, providing Tier 2 and Tier 3 interventions for students with Developmental Language Disorder, training staff, and reviewing language programs.
Currently, Glisson is Co-Director and Co-Founder of Tracks to Literacy, clinician at Fremantle Speech Pathology Services, and Language and Literacy Specialist at Teach Well in Perth. She contributes to the Language and Literacy in Young People Research Lab at Curtin University and serves as a council member for Learning Difficulties Australia. Her research interests encompass oral and written narrative assessment, instruction, and intervention; Tier 2 interventions; morphological awareness to enhance vocabulary development in adolescents with Developmental Language Disorder; and the oral language and psychosocial skills of young people in flexible learning programs. Key publications include 'Morphemes matter: A small scale randomised control trial of vocabulary intervention focusing on affixes for adolescents with (developmental) language disorder' (2025), 'Profiling the oral language and psychosocial skills of young people attending Flexible Learning Programmes' (2025), ''They make it easier to learn and cope': The views of adolescents with speech, language and communication needs on attending a flexible learning programme' (2023), and 'Evaluating the efficacy of a small-group oral narrative intervention programme for pre-primary children with narrative difficulties in a mainstream school setting' (2019). Through her work, Glisson supports the translation of research evidence into clinical and educational practices.
