Layse Albuquerque da Silva Lucas is a biologist affiliated with Pontifícia Universidade Católica do Rio Grande do Sul (PUCRS). She holds a bachelor's degree in Biological Sciences from Universidade Federal de Pernambuco (2017) and a master's degree in Animal Biology from the same institution (2020). She is currently a doctoral student in the Graduate Program in Ecology and Evolution of Biodiversity at PUCRS, with research focused on the evolutionary history, comparative genomics, and population structure of bottlenose dolphins in the Western South Atlantic.
Her academic background includes work on the phylogeography and evolutionary history of Neotropical birds, such as the mangrove finch (Conirostrum bicolor) and the troupial species complex (Icterus icterus). She has participated in research projects on avian ecology, biogeography, and evolution, and has presented at conferences including those organized by the American Ornithological Society and Brazilian ornithology congresses. She previously served as a CNPq fellow at the Centro Nacional de Pesquisa e Conservação de Mamíferos Aquáticos (ICMBio/CMA) and has experience in curatorial and genomic methods from a stint at Louisiana State University.
