About Lee

Lee de-Wit is an Associate Professor in the Department of Psychology at the University of Cambridge, where he also serves as Deputy Head (Undergraduate Education) and directs the Political Psychology Laboratory. He is a Staff Fellow in Psychology and Director of Studies in Psychological and Behavioural Sciences at Trinity Hall, Cambridge. He originally studied Experimental Psychology at the University of Bristol, completing his BSc between 2002 and 2005. He then undertook an ESRC-funded MA (2005-2006, supervised by Charles Fernyhough) and PhD (2006-2009, supervised by David Milner FRS and Robert Kentridge) at Durham University. Following his doctorate, he worked as a postdoctoral researcher at the University of Leuven on the Gestalt Revision program led by Johan Wagemans from 2010 to 2015. He has held visiting researcher positions at the UCL Institute of Cognitive Neuroscience, the University of Oxford, and the University Hospital Pitié-Salpêtrière in Paris.

De-Wit previously served as a Teaching Fellow (2016-2018) and Senior Teaching Fellow (2018-2019) at University College London, and as Academic Director for Psychology at the University of Cambridge Institute of Continuing Education (2016-2017). His research applies experimental and computational social science methods to political psychology, with a particular focus on the measurement and drivers of polarization. He is the author of the book What’s Your Bias?: The Surprising Science of Why We Vote the Way We Do. In 2024, he received the Pilkington Prize for excellence in teaching. He is a Fellow of Trinity Hall, Cambridge.
