Leigh Johnson is an Associate Professor at the University of Cape Town, based in the Centre for Infectious Disease Epidemiology and Research within the School of Public Health. He holds a PhD from the University of Cape Town, awarded in 2008, as well as a BBusSc from the same institution. Johnson is an epidemiologist and actuary whose work centres on mathematical modelling of infectious diseases, with a primary focus on the HIV epidemic in South Africa.
He has contributed extensively to research estimating HIV prevalence, incidence, and the demographic impacts of the epidemic, supporting health policy through modelling studies.
