At CCCE, located in City Heights, a diverse low-income community, the center provides affordable mental health services, primarily to minoritized and underserved populations, including Black, Latinx, and Asian communities, many of whom are low-income, jobless, or homeless. Approximately 60% of clients are from these groups. CCCE serves as a training site for SDSU counseling and master’s students under supervision by experienced clinicians. In 2021, the center received a $15,000 Racial Justice Grant from the First United Methodist Church of San Diego to expand programming, reduce fees for workshops and therapy groups, and support volunteer supervisors with costs like course registration and license fees. Dr. Pileski also serves as faculty for the Trauma Informed Care certificate program in the College of Education.
