Luke Morrison serves as the Tautiaki and Warden of Cumberland College at the University of Otago, located at 250 Castle Street, Dunedin. In this capacity, he bears overall responsibility for the college's operations, including the oversight of pastoral care provided to all residents. Prior to this appointment in 2022, following the merger of Te Rangi Hiroa College with Cumberland College, Morrison was the Head of Abbey College, a position he held since February 2017. His leadership in the University of Otago's residential colleges includes supporting student-led initiatives, such as environmental efforts addressing possum proliferation on campus.
Morrison earned multiple degrees from the University of Otago: a Bachelor of Arts with Honours in Geography in 1993 for his thesis 'Voluntary Associations and Spatial Information Fields,' a Master of Arts in Geography in 1996 for 'Driven to Despair?: Geographical Implications of Giving up Driving in Old Age,' and a Bachelor of Laws with Honours in 2011 for 'Legal Responses to Non-Life-Threatening Medical Neglect,' featured in the Otago Yearbook of Legal Research 2011. As a Junior Research Fellow at the Injury Prevention Research Unit in the Department of Preventive and Social Medicine, Dunedin School of Medicine, he co-authored several peer-reviewed articles. These include 'The process and impact of implementing injury prevention projects in smaller communities in New Zealand' (Health Promotion International, 2003), 'Epidemiology of non-submersion injuries in aquatic settings: a total population study in New Zealand' (Injury Prevention, 2003), 'Marijuana use and car crash injury' (Accident Analysis & Prevention, 2003), and contributions to studies on drowning-related deaths in New Zealand (1980–94). He also held positions as Executive Officer (University of Otago Calendar 2007) and HR representative, Acting Manager Promotions and Remuneration.
