Dr. Lydia Gilmore serves as a Professor in Business & Economics at Columbus State Community College, specializing in the Business Management department. She earned her Ph.D. from Capella University, M.B.A. from Franklin University, and B.A. from The Ohio State University. As a lead instructor, she teaches essential courses such as Interpersonal Skills (BMGT 1102), Professional Development (BMGT 2280), and Negotiation (BMGT 2254), preparing students for success in business environments. Her dedication to teaching excellence and faculty leadership is evident in her receipt of the Distinguished Full Professor Award for 2024-25. This prestigious honor, one of the college's highest recognitions established in 2011, acknowledges professors who exemplify outstanding performance in service, scholarship, innovation, and leadership, positioning recipients as role models within the institution.
In addition to her classroom contributions, Dr. Gilmore co-leads the Faculty Professional Development Initiative (FPDi) as a Faculty Fellow. This initiative fosters faculty growth through collaboration and innovation, emphasizing Active and Collaborative Learning principles across tracks including Critical Thinking, Student Success in Higher Education, Alternative Assessment, Leveraging Teaching with Technology, and Student Conduct. She has also served as a peer reviewer for the Columbus State Community College's open educational resources collection, specifically the '21st Century Workplace Skills' series. This 10-lesson series covers key topics such as the future of work, interpersonal skills, decision making, emotional intelligence, working in teams, cultural competence, additional success factors, digital literacy, and career management, adapted from various open sources under Business and Communication and Career and Technical Education subjects. Dr. Gilmore further engages in college governance through participation in Campus Empowerment representing BET Business Programs and the Academic Council. Her multifaceted roles underscore her impact on business education and professional development at Columbus State Community College.
