Manny Kang serves as a Lecturer in the Department of Computer Science at California State University, East Bay. His doctoral work culminated in a Doctor of Information Technology degree from Walden University, with a dissertation titled "Analyzing Secure Access Strategies to Protect Clinical-Information Systems in the Healthcare Industry." This qualitative study explores strategies employed by IT leaders in the healthcare sector to secure patient health records within private cloud-based clinical information systems. Grounded in task-technology fit theory, the research involved interviews with professionals from metropolitan San Francisco Bay Area healthcare facilities, emphasizing security procedures, employee awareness, user training, and cybersecurity response protocols. Kang's academic background further includes an MS in Information Technology from Walden University (2015), an MS in Computer Science/Engineering from a California State University campus (1998), an MS in Applied Mathematics from CSU (1995), and an MS in Mathematics from an institution in India (1990).
Kang possesses over 20 years of extensive professional experience as a CIO/CTO, IT security consultant, and manager. He has contributed to developing, implementing, and securing web-based application systems, particularly in healthcare settings. His career spans major technology companies including Intel, IBM, California Business and Technology, Broadcom, ITT-TECH, DeVry, VMware, and Citrix. Key areas of expertise encompass software development for web, cloud, and mobile applications; software network management; cybersecurity; central processing design; graphics chip design; system-level validation; web application design and testing; and Cisco Networking system administration. In academia, beyond his lecturing role at CSUEB—where he offers evening office hours on Zoom—Kang is an Adjunct Faculty member in the Computer Science department at Evergreen Valley College and San Jose City College in the San Jose-Evergreen Community College District. He has also taken on leadership roles such as Faculty Co-Chair and Technology Committee Team Leader within the district, alongside participation in organizations like the Academic Senate for California Community Colleges (ASCCC) Faculty Development Committee and California Mathematics Council Community Colleges (CMC3).
