Marc Jacobs is a Professor Emeritus in the Department of Theatre and Dance at California State University, East Bay. He served as Associate Professor with specialties in directing, playwriting, and musical theatre. Jacobs held the positions of Acting Advisor and Musical Theatre Advisor in the Theatre and Dance program. His office was located in RO 205, with contact phone (510) 885-3129. He holds an MFA and trained at the London Academy of Music and Dramatic Art. Jacobs contributed extensively to the department through advising and production work over many years.
Jacobs directed numerous productions at California State University, East Bay, including Angels in America by Tony Kushner in November 2006 at the Studio Theatre, Urinetown, the Musical through March 9, 2008, Fusion showcasing theatre-dance student works in 2009, his original drama The Iago Syndrome on October 13, 2009, which drew comparisons to Othello in exploring violence, Avenue Q in 2014, She Loves Me, 1984 from the novel by George Orwell in November 2019, and Songs in a Time of Pandemic presented by CSU East Bay students. Additional directing credits include On Pins and Needles and external productions such as La Cage Aux Folles for Broadway by the Bay in 2010. His playwriting includes The Iago Syndrome. Jacobs' productions received recognition, including awards at the Kennedy Center American College Theatre Festival Region 7 conference. In Fall 2020, he was honored with emeritus status at the Faculty Honors Ceremony.
