About Masaru

Masaru Hori is Designated Professor at the Center for Low-temperature Plasma Sciences (cLPS) and Professor Emeritus at Nagoya University. He earned a bachelor's degree from Waseda University in the Department of Electronics and Communication in 1981 and a Doctor of Engineering degree from Nagoya University in 1986. Hori began his career at Toshiba Corporation's Research and Development Center before joining Nagoya University in 1992 as an assistant professor in the Faculty of Engineering. He advanced to lecturer in 1994, associate professor in 1996, and full professor in 2004. He has held numerous leadership positions at the university, including Director of the Center for Low-Temperature Plasma Sciences from 2019 to 2023, Director of the Plasma Nanoengineering Research Center, and various roles in the Institute for Future Society Creation. His research focuses on plasma applied science, with interests in radical-controlled plasma processes, plasma life sciences applied to medicine, agriculture, and pharmacology, and low-temperature plasma science and applications. Hori has served on numerous professional committees and organizing bodies for international conferences in plasma science and related fields. He is a member of the Japan Society of Applied Physics, the Japan Society of Plasma and Nuclear Fusion Research, the Materials Research Society, the American Vacuum Society, and other professional organizations. In recognition of his contributions, he has received awards including the Kenichiro Ishii Award and the DPS Nishizawa Award.
