Dr. Minu Scaria serves as a Lecturer in the Department of Business Law and Taxation within the Monash Business School at Monash University. She earned a Master’s degree in Banking and Finance Law from the Melbourne Law School at the University of Melbourne and completed her Ph.D. with a focus on interest rate regulation and the performance of financial institutions. Her academic career includes prior roles as a Sessional Lecturer at Charles Sturt University’s Melbourne Study Centre, where she taught Business Law and Corporations Law at both undergraduate and postgraduate levels. Additionally, she worked as a Teaching Associate at Monash Business School, contributing to units such as Banking Law, Business Law, Corporations Law, Commercial Law, and International Trade Law. Before entering academia, Dr. Scaria accumulated practical experience in the banking and finance industry, both in Australia and internationally, with expertise in retail and commercial banking.
Dr. Scaria’s research specializations encompass the regulatory dimensions of the banking and finance sector, including interest-rate regulation, anti-money laundering measures, counter-terrorism financing, non-performing assets, securitisation transactions, and consumer credit regulation. Further interests include banking regulation, microfinance regulation, and financial inclusion. She is a member of the Corporate Law, Organisation and Litigation Research Group and is currently accepting PhD students. In recognition of her outstanding contributions to teaching, she has been awarded the Business Law & Taxation Department award for Teaching Excellence on 1 November 2021 and 1 November 2024, the Dean's Commendation for Teaching Excellence on 1 December 2021, and Fellowship of the Higher Education Academy on 21 January 2022. Dr. Scaria coordinates and delivers several key units at Monash University, including BTF3601 Banking and Finance Law, BTF5112 Banking and Finance Regulation, and BTC3200 Finance Law. She has also pioneered innovative pedagogical methods, such as Rainbow Feedback, which uses colors to provide clearer marking and grading for students.
