Dr. Mitshel Lino is a Lecturer in Psychological Science in the Department of Health Sciences, School of Humanities and Health Sciences, at Curtin University Malaysia. She holds a PhD in Psychology from Universiti Sains Malaysia (USM), a Master in Social Sciences (Psychology) from USM, and a Bachelor of Psychology (Honours) from HELP University. Since 2013, she has served as a lecturer and researcher, teaching courses including Mixed Methods Research in Health Psychology, Science and Professional Practice in Psychology, and others in the psychology curriculum. Her research focuses on multicultural psychology, social psychology, and positive psychology, particularly examining racial microaggressions, cultural tolerance, positive relationships, and well-being in Malaysian multicultural communities and university settings.
Mitshel Lino has authored several key publications that highlight her contributions to understanding social dynamics in diverse environments. These include 'Cultural tolerance, positive relationships and well-being in Malaysian multicultural communities' (Geografia, 2020), 'Racial microaggression in multicultural Malaysia: Ethnic-specific experience of university students' (Journal of Ethnic and Cultural Studies, 2019), 'The lurking racism: Exploring racial microaggression in the Malaysian university setting' (Pertanika Journal of Social Sciences & Humanities, 2017), 'Sociology and welfare development' (Samudra Biru, 2015), 'A Latent Racism: Understanding Racial Microaggression Paradigm in University Setting of Malaysia' (Proceedings of Universiti Sains Malaysia, 2015), and 'Treading carefully in murky waters: Sensitivities and sensibilities in research on ethnicity and race in Malaysia' (Qualitative Research in Malaysia, 2025). In 2025, she received a Curtin Malaysia Teaching Innovation Project (CMTIP) grant for her study on the relationship between social media use, depression and anxiety levels, and academic performance among Curtin University Malaysia students. Lino actively contributes to community initiatives, such as co-presenting sessions on hypnotherapy, participating in service-learning programs like SLICE with Nurturing Growth, serving on organising committees for university events, and conducting stress management workshops for educators in the 'Healthy Schools, Safe Futures' programme. Her scholarship and outreach efforts promote resilience, social harmony, and psychological well-being in multicultural academic and community contexts.
