Dr. Ramlah Mohamad Ibrahim joined Monash University Malaysia as a Lecturer in the Jeffrey Cheah School of Medicine and Health Sciences in July 2023. She holds a Bachelor of Science in Nutrition and Community Health from Universiti Putra Malaysia, awarded in 2008, with her undergraduate thesis examining the anti-colon cancer properties of methanolic extracts from Curculigo latifolia. In 2014, she completed a Master of Science in Nutritional Sciences at the same institution, where her thesis investigated the effects of Nigella sativa L. seed powder on menopausal women with metabolic syndrome. This research contributed to peer-reviewed publications including 'A randomised controlled trial on hypolipidemic effects of Nigella Sativa seeds powder in menopausal women' published in the Journal of Translational Medicine (2014) and 'Protective effects of Nigella sativa on metabolic syndrome in menopausal women' in the Advanced Pharmaceutical Bulletin (2014). She earned her Doctor of Philosophy in Medical Biotechnology, specializing in Nutrigenomics, from Universiti Putra Malaysia in 2022. Her PhD thesis focused on the anti-obesity activities of edible bird's nest using 3T3-L1 adipocytes and high-fat cholesterol diet-induced obese rabbits models.
Dr. Ibrahim's academic career includes prior roles as a dedicated researcher conducting in vitro studies, in vivo experiments, and clinical trials. Her research specializations and interests are in nutrigenomics, nutritional sciences, functional foods and nutraceuticals, metabolic syndrome, obesity, and molecular biology. Key publications from her work include 'The authentication and grading of edible bird’s nest by metabolite, nutritional, and mineral profiling' (Foods, 2021), 'Characterization and extraction influence protein profiling of edible bird’s nest' (Foods, 2021), and 'Efficacy of Edible bird’s nest on cognitive functions in experimental animal models: A systematic review' (Nutrients, 2021). She has been awarded the Graduate Initiative Grant during her doctoral studies, the Asia-Pacific Cardiometabolic Syndrome Congress 2025 Travel Grant on 23 May 2025, and the International Congress on Obesity and Metabolic Syndrome 2024 Travel Grant on 5 September 2024. Dr. Ibrahim serves as Editor-in-Chief for Frontiers in Nutrition (2025-2026) and the International Journal of Nutrition and Food Sciences (2023-2027), and as an Editorial Board Member for the latter journal until 2025. She was a speaker at the International Congress on Obesity and Metabolic Syndrome (5-7 September 2024). At Monash University, she coordinates NUT1021 - Fundamentals of human nutrition and NUT1028 - Nutrition throughout lifecycle.
