Professor Murray Coleman is an Adjunct Professor in the School of Architecture and Built Environment at the University of Newcastle, within the Faculty of Engineering and Built Environment. He earned a First Class Honours degree in Building from the University of Melbourne in 1995. Previously, he served as a Professorial Fellow at the University of Melbourne and an Adjunct Professor at the University of New South Wales. In 2014, he delivered the occasional address at the University of Newcastle's Faculty of Engineering and Built Environment graduation ceremony. Coleman is recognized for his extensive contributions to construction management and project delivery, with appointments including the International Panel of Experts on Construction Productivity and Prefabrication Technology for the Building Construction Authority of Singapore, and as a Foundation Industry Fellow of the AIB College of Building in Australia.
Murray Coleman's career spans over 30 years predominantly in the property and construction industry, beginning with Lend Lease in 1987. He progressed through senior executive roles across Australia, Asia Pacific, the UK, Europe, the Middle East, and the Americas, managing major global infrastructure projects, business turnarounds, transformations, restructurings for growth, and strategic acquisitions. Key positions include leading Lend Lease's project management and construction business in Australia, Asia Pacific, and the UK; Global CEO of Bovis Lend Lease; Global Head of Health and Safety; and Global Group Head of Operational Risk, where he drove safety, strategic growth, operational excellence, and innovation. From 2017 to 2024, he was Head of Development Projects at Macquarie Group. Currently, he is Non-Executive Chair of A.G. Coombs Group and holds directorships at Squadron Energy and Earlytrade. His accolades include the Medal of the Order of Australia (OAM) awarded in 2012 for service to the building and construction industry, Fellowship of the Australian Institute of Building (FAIB), and Fellowship of the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors (FRICS).
