About Naoshi

Naoshi Sugimoto is Program-Specific Associate Professor at the Center for iPS Cell Research and Application (CiRA), Kyoto University, in the Department of Clinical Application. He holds a PhD in Medicine from Kyoto University. His research interests include regenerative medicine, immunology, and hematology, with research areas focused on life sciences including biomaterials and regenerative biomedical engineering, biomedical engineering, hematology and oncology, transfusion medicine, platelets, hemato-oncology, and hemato-immunology.

Sugimoto has contributed to numerous publications on topics such as induced pluripotent stem cell-derived platelets, including the 2026 paper “Induced pluripotent stem cell-derived platelets kill multidrug-resistant Staphylococcus aureus via Toll-like receptor 2-MyD88 signaling and immunoglobulin G/FcγRIIA engagement,” the 2025 paper “KCNN4-mediated potassium ion efflux maintains mitochondrial functions leading to platelet biogenesis,” the 2025 paper “STAT1-mediated epigenetic regulation of LIN28A controls iPSC-derived platelet production through the let-7-RALB axis,” the 2023 paper “Ex vivo manufacturing of platelets: beyond the first-in-human clinical trial using autologous iPSC-platelets,” the 2022 paper “Production and nonclinical evaluation of an autologous iPSC-derived platelet product for the iPLAT1 clinical trial,” the 2022 paper “iPLAT1: The first-in-human clinical trial of iPSC-derived platelets as a phase 1 autologous transfusion study,” the 2024 paper “A let-7 microRNA-RALB axis links the immune properties of iPSC-derived megakaryocytes with platelet producibility,” the 2018 paper “Turbulence Activates Platelet Biogenesis to Enable Clinical Scale Ex Vivo Production,” and the 2020 paper “iPSC-Derived Platelets Depleted of HLA Class I Are Inert to Anti-HLA Class I and Natural Killer Cell Immunity.” He previously served as Senior Clinical Fellow in the Department of Hematology and Oncology at Kyoto University Hospital and has held cross-appointments including at Kagawa University.
