About Natalie
Professor Natalie Trevaskis holds the position of Professor, Drug Delivery Disposition & Dynamics in the Faculty of Pharmacy and Pharmaceutical Sciences at Monash University. She heads the Lymphatic Medicine Laboratory within the Monash Institute of Pharmaceutical Sciences (MIPS) and serves as Deputy Associate Dean (Research) and Co-Head of the Cardiovascular and Metabolic Health Therapeutic Area. Trevaskis earned her Bachelor of Pharmacy, receiving the Gold Medal for the top student in 2001, and her PhD, awarded the Mollie Holman Doctoral Medal for thesis excellence in 2006, both from Monash University. Her research centers on the lymphatic system's role in inflammatory and metabolic diseases, including arthritis, pancreatitis, neuroinflammation, atherosclerosis, obesity, and type 2 diabetes, as well as developing targeted drug delivery systems such as orally administered lipid prodrugs and parenteral nano-systems including liposomes, lipoprotein mimetics, and polymers.
Trevaskis has published over 100 research papers, accumulating more than 10,000 citations with an h-index of 38. Key publications feature in Science Translational Medicine (2026), Nature Metabolism (2021), Nature (2020), Nature Nanotechnology (2020), and Angewandte Chemie (2016), alongside highly cited reviews on lipid-based and lymphatic drug delivery in Nature Reviews Drug Discovery (twice), Advanced Drug Delivery Reviews (three times), and Pharmacological Reviews. She is an inventor on over 65 granted PCT patents for oral lipid prodrugs targeting lymphatics, licensed to Puretech Health in 2017 and spun out into Seaport Therapeutics in 2024, with several candidates advancing to phase 1 and 2 clinical trials. Awards include the Vice-Chancellor’s Research of the Year Award (2026), MIPS Future Research Leader Award (2018), and AK McIntyre Prize from the Australian Physiological Society (2015). Trevaskis edits for Pharmaceutical Research, Journal of Pharmaceutical Sciences, and Frontiers in Drug Delivery, sits on the Australian Physiological Society council, and coordinates units such as PHR1022 How Medicines Work 2 in the Master of Pharmacy program while supervising around 10 postdoctoral fellows, 12 PhD students, and 2 honours students.
