Associate Professor Nga Pham serves as Director of External Engagement at the Monash Centre for Financial Studies within Monash Business School, Monash University, a position she has held since joining the centre in March 2018. She holds a Bachelor of Commerce majoring in Finance from the University of Melbourne under the AusAID program, an MBA from La Trobe University with Dean's Commendation, and a PhD in Finance from La Trobe University under the Australian Leadership Award. Prior to Monash, Pham had over 15 years of experience in financial education, research, and advisory services. She was a lecturer in Finance at Hanoi University, progressing to Head of the Finance Department, Vice Dean, and Dean of the Business Faculty. She also served as Executive Director of the joint program between La Trobe University and Hanoi University, taught MBA and Master of International Business courses at La Trobe in Melbourne, worked as an equity analyst for Vietnam Asset Management and Bien Viet Securities, completed a leadership placement at the Commonwealth Bank of Australia in 2011, and acted as a corporate governance consultant for the International Finance Corporation of the World Bank Group from 2015 to 2018. A Chartered Financial Analyst charterholder since 2011, she contributes to various committees including the Global Policy Committee of the International Corporate Governance Network (previously co-chairing the Financial Capital Committee and serving on the Disclosure and Transparency Committee), the Advisory Board of the Mercer CFA Institute Global Pension Index, Monash University's Modern Slavery Steering Committee, and the Board of Directors of the CFA Society Australia.
Pham's research specializations encompass corporate governance, investment, ESG factors such as climate change and modern slavery, shareholder activism, and pension systems, aiming to inform investors' decision-making. Key publications include the co-authored book State on Board! Navigating Corporate Governance in Emerging Market Business (2021), based on her PhD thesis; 'Global trends and developments in carbon pricing' (2025) in Investment Innovations Toward Achieving Net Zero; 'Modern slavery disclosure quality of the largest ASX-listed companies' (2024) in The Palgrave Handbook on Modern Slavery; and reports such as 'Modern Slavery Disclosure Quality Ratings: ASX100 Companies Update 2024' and analyses of the 60/40 portfolio performance (2025). Her work has earned the 2023 Dean's Award for Excellence in Research Engagement and Impact (with co-authors) and the ICGN's Rising Star Award. Pham has also served on the Steering Committee of the CFA Community in Vietnam (2017) and contributes to industry forums and policy submissions.
